English Oral Assessment on next Monday

The pupils have learnt how to use the Audacity program to record their own reading. The reading rubrics for assemssment were also explained to them. Some of the recordings were played in class and the pupils listened to their friends' reading and did peer evaluation. Next Monday, pupils will be taking their English oral test. The marks (10%) will be included in the S.A.2.

To get a good grade, pupils should:
(1) pronounce the words clearly (e.g. do not forget the last consonant sounds, e.g. sat, days, rests, like)
(2) read fluently (do not give a jerky delivery)
(3) read at an appropriate pace (with appropriate pauses after commas and full-stops)
(4) read with expression (with varying pitch and appropriate tone)
(5) be loud enough to be clear (should not be too soft or too loud)

I have listened to the pupils' recordings and most of them are able to read fluently. However, a number of them missed out the last consonant sounds. Some of them read in a monotone and a few were too soft. Please help your child to practise reading before the test. Thank you.

Reminder: There will be an English Quiz tomorrow.

Our Ice-cream Party

Dear boys and girls, did you enjoy our ice-cream party? Remember to thank Mrs Tan and our 3 friends from 5A, Wilbert, Manwin and Thu Ta, who helped out. I'm pleased that you were cooperative and helped to clean up the classroom after the party. Which of the ice-cream flavours (chocolate, vanilla and raspberry) did you like best? Which toppings (marshmallows, M&M chocolates, raisins and rainbow rice) did you select for your ice cream?

Past Tense List

The pupils have learnt how the past tense form of regular verbs is formed. They have also learnt the past tense form of irregular verbs. A list of these words was given to them. Please help them to study the Past Tense list. Teach them to pace themselves... perhaps they can learn five words a day. Many of the pupils have already started and I'm proud of their progress. Thank you for your help.

Pupils can review what they have learnt with the video lesson below. The video is a bit difficult to follow and you may wish to view it together with your child so that you can guide him or her.

Rainbow Day 3

Well Done, Children.  You did a GREAT job on Rainbow Day 3.  Hope you have enjoyed yourselves.

Our New Class Librarians

A big 'thank you' to our class librarians, Bernice, Gabriel Lim and Cheng Yang, for their service in Term 2. They did a great job keeping track of the class library books and maintaining discipline at the reading corner.

This term, we have 3 new class librarians - Daniel, Janelle and Eunice. Their duties include helping to select the class library books from the school library, checking that all the books are returned at the end of the English periods, making sure pupils line up to select the books, ensuring pupils read quietly at the reading corner and even taking turns to read to pupils who are not able to read well!

Pupils can read at the reading corner when they have completed their work.

Modified Language Experience Activity - Sandwich Making

On Tuesday, the pupils had their first Modified Language Experience Activity (MLEA). First, they watched the teacher demonstrate how to make a sandwich. Then they recalled the steps in making a sandwich, which were recorded on a big sheet of paper. After that, it was their turn to make the sandwich. The pupils were cooperative and took turns to do the task. After the activity, pupils did group writing. They wove the steps of making a sandwich into a simple story.
